What is Buy Nearby Weekend?

Buy Nearby Weekend is Michigan Retailers Association’s (MRA) annual shop-local event held to promote the amazing businesses Michigan is home to and to encourage shoppers to Keep Their Money in Michigan®!

Why Participate?

As we all know, retail is vital! If Michiganders redirected 10% of their estimated $36.5 billion in out-of-state e-commerce, Michigan would gain 15,367 jobs, a $691 million boost in labor income, $1.5 billion in value-added to the state’s economy, and a $2.6 billion contribution in gross economic output.

Buy Nearby Weekend is also a chance to celebrate shopping, your local community, and potentially boost sales!

How Can I Get Involved?

Encourage your neighboring stores and downtown retailers to request a free Survival Kit and run their own promotions during the Weekend. Rallying more stores in your town will entice shoppers to spend more time shopping in your area.

Added perk for MRA members: One lucky MRA member business that orders a Survival Kit will be sent a Golden Ticket, redeemable for a $750 gift card! Members will also be added to the Participating Members map, helping to promote your store during the Weekend and the upcoming holiday season. Order your complimentary kit before September 15.

Added perk for non-members: One lucky business that orders a Survival Kit will be sent a Golden Ticket, redeemable for a free year of MRA membership.
